The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), No. 2 of 2000, as amended, was enacted under Section 32(2) of the Constitution. Its primary purpose is to promote transparency and accountability within both public and private entities. PAIA accomplishes this by upholding the right to access information, thereby fostering a society where South Africans can readily obtain the information they need to fully exercise and safeguard their rights, while also contributing to the nation’s vision of an open, participatory democracy.
